Parent company visa and mastercard slippery slope...
I personally would like to know how far steam will let visa and mastercard go. Once they try to get rid of adult games will they let them go after games with just sensuality or games with guns or games that have violence, blood and gore? Will they let them ban games unless left/right feminists agree with the game? All my loyalty towards steam just circling the drain.

I really don't care what side of the political aisle you're on, we are gamers and don't need nanny states or nanny companies telling us what we can or can't buy.

Valve was showing and selling pornography, and with no mechanism for age verification. They've likely shown and sold to it to children. Had they been responsible the card companies probably wouldn't have confronted them. If that is what really happened, and Valve isn't just deflecting. You can't be mad at card companies for not wanting to be party to law breaking.

Let? Payment providers have as much right to manage their networks as Valve does to manage Steam. Valve's only option would be to cease doing business with them, but that's wholly unrealistic so the answer is nothing. Get used to it.

"Then all games. Then TV, and movies, and all books. What will Valve do when payment providers outlaw pencils and vowels? Where does it end? Someone do something!!1!"

My friend, you've stepped into the realm of reductio ad infinitum trying to peddle the idea they're going to ban games and keep banning games without end instead of a narrow scope of titles. And it's not like terms and conditions to use payment providers are new, it's that some people are just now aware that there are terms and conditions and seem to think it's outrageous. This is exactly why "ignorance is bliss".

But the short answer is, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it. Or maybe it'll be like the movie industry when a movie get's an R or NC-17 rating and that's not what the studio wants so they edit it down to make it PG-13 or R. Somehow we've survived decades of that, video games aren't all that special in the big picture.

Well the days of almost lawless wild west Internet are over. The freedom you imagine never existed. And any aspect of life that can be regulated eventually will be. No one with power can resist using it. And the day "gamers" accomplish anything meaningful with their posturing and rhetoric will probably never happen.

This time next year, no one will care, the fallout won't really affect most people and once all the chicken littles realize it they'll stop crying about the sky falling.

Ironically your own previous quote applies to this.

Are you farming reactions OP or are you just angry that concord and other games with androgynous monsters are dying?

Replace "concord" "other games with androgynous monsters" with "♥♥♥♥" and you now have contradiction.
They will definitely go after violent video games once they see how this first move plays out.

The younger people here thinks that sounds impossible, because they are too young to remember the campaigns against games like GTA, DOOM, and MK in the 90s and early 2000s.
The same group that pressured payment providers now also got GTAV pulled from store shelves in Australia in 2013. I guarantee they will not stop there.
What is Steam supposed to do, then? Not comply? So if MC and Visa then stop business, how will that work out? Keep in mind that MC and Visa have a very large reach, they do credit *and* debit cards for loads of banks around the world.

I don't know about you, but I'd like to be able to purchase games. And since all banks around here use debit cards from Maestro/Mastercard or V-Pay/Visa, it's a bit hard to not use them, you know.

my loyalty towards steam
Your "loyalty" is yours, just keep in mind that it's entirely meaningless to anyone outside yourself. That also goes for Valve/Steam, mind. :cozybethesda:

Branche loyalty is stupid.
