Free time to roam?
I am currently at the stage where the gang is ready to “Steal Kamoshida’s Heart” and the ticker at the top says “Days until Expulsion: 14”. It feels like game is being hands off here as opposed to earlier where I had less freedom to roam.

Can I use this time to explore the city? Will I need to worry about getting home on time?

This is my first Persona game and I just started it on merciless difficulty a few days ago and I am really enjoying it but overall clueless on how to play a game like this one.

Thanks.

You are correct that you are now in free time and allowed to roam. However, the timer is a lot more generous than you think, in that it isn't a "timer", it is a "number of actions countdown". You can spend as much real time as you want wandering the city, going to different places, shopping, etc. The only thing that progresses game time is performing an activity; studying in the library, working out, spending time with a confidant, that sort of thing. Each day has two two time slots, an "after school/afternoon" slot and an "evening" slot, and you can perform one activity in each slot.

Things like "getting home on time" or getting to school in the morning are done automatically, the only thing you have to worry about is how you spend your time slots. There is no clearcut indicator of what spends time and what doesn't (they fix this in Metaphor Refantazio), but usually Morganna will say something like "are you sure you want to spend time here?" if it will consume a time slot.

yes you can explore the city, go try to see everything around you. You can simply save first before trying something, i mean this game allow player to save anywhere in Tokyo, so you don't waste a time slot

tbh yes this game is very generous about time, even if you don't know what you re doing, the game will always have spare time for you. So please explore the city, everything offered in-game

so you can learn by doing, just remember always save first if you doubt doing something

If you want to explore the city and the areas go right on, if your goal is to maximize your time and trying to go for 100% then I would; not jokingly, look at a guide to 100% because even though there is a time limit and it feels lax, this game kind of punishes you for just going around and doing a bunch of other stuff. If you are wanting to experience P5 at your leisure then go ahead, the only thing that is super duper important is throughout the year make sure to level up your Councillor confidant with Dr. Maruki, you should only get up to either 7 or 8 and after he leaves later in the year the confidant is maxed out. Since you are playing Royal, the entire 3rd semester or the Royal part depends on maxing out Maruki's confidant; spoiler alert he is kind of important for the true final fight and determining whether you get the True Ending or Bad Ending.

First time playing a Persona game, and you went with merciless difficulty...you are far braver than I ever will be!

Ok, you guys weren’t kidding when you said the time passes during each action. These days go by quick! I studied for two days by accident because I was trying to figure out how to read the cleaning book I got from the store.

That's what I do with most games; start on the hardest difficulty so that I get used to it a lot quicker.

Thanks again

Merciless can actually make things easier. It's a bit counter-intuitive for sure but was what got me through the boss in the third palace (because how that works)

You see attacks that hit a weakness (or technical) do far more damage, like triple than on normal. The downside is ofc that you take more but enemies can go down way quicker. Hard is problaby the hardest diff since its scale like difficulties usually do

I personally stay at normal, im way past bumping up the difficulty. The exception was for that boss-fight in the ufo that I just found really annoying

im sure it has been posted here but to reiterate, when dealing with a deadline, you need to make sure you put out the calling card first, i think it is 2 days before the deadline.

Ok, what is that?

This is news to me, unless Morgana said it and it went over my head. I started the mission to steal Kamoshida's heart and I just learnt the Wall/Hiding Ambush combo.

My cool persona became a baby in a jar.

Like someone else said, if you want the hardest experience, then it's better to go with the hard difficulty

Ok, so from what I understand, then Merciless is not the hardest difficulty? Can I change difficulty after starting the game?

You can, as long as you don't choose safe difficulty. You can't change from it. And though there will be a couple fights that are harder on merciless, but in most cases I can argue that normal is harder than merciless... Which is strange, I know
